we all need friends

for this post i decided to show the progression of an idea
to start with, the inspiration: 20th Century Boys I read a review of
this movie series along with some screen shots and was inspired
by the idea of a cult of masked people and i was also looking for a
excuse to follow Ben Templesmith's (30 Days of Night, Wormwood Gentleman Corpse)
demo on creating a comic book cover from concept to print and using textures
in an old issue of Advanced Photoshop as closely as possible. I ended up skipping
a few steps (using photographs for face texture, adding tentacles :) ) the longest
part of this was putting together the final ink/wash drawing after scanning it in in sections
and trying to make sure every thing had the same density. It seemed like the color went
quicker than i expected. also my piece looked a bit too much like one of Templesmith's Illustrations.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Templesmith at this years
Emerald City Comic Con and it was an educational experience. He was very generous with
his time despite having to work on sketches he took the time to chat about tools as well
as work, If you happen to meet him at a convention and see him say hi and let him know
how much you enjoy his work.
from concept to book cover

make them laugh

first sorry for the lack of posts if anyone is reading this blog but we've had some family stuff w/my daughter that has just now started to calm down. About this strip...if you find this offensive get a sense of humor it's funny. In case you couldn't tell by my name I'm Italian + this is HILLLLarious not just because i witnessed my father, on vacation a few years ago in Atlanta, call all the rest of my family members staying in the same hotel as us at about 3-3:30 am and tell them this joke in a fit of Dewars inspired insomnia. If you knew the family i grew up in you'd know how true it is. Done on Canson comic strip board (2ply bristol) and Higgons india ink with a brush, quill and Copic drawing pen and liner

first look @ "Flame Radio"

Here are pages 2,3 and 4 from a project i'm working on w/ my buddy Carlos called "Flame Radio". It's basically about how bad radio has become in Seattle (you can only listen to so much Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Alice in Fucking Chains at one time) at a radio station run by demons . I'm inking w/a bamboo pen and then using a brush to apply a wash over the line work. More will be posted as i finish them
